07/16/2008 - C-Labs Digital Media Platform Now Accessible at the Course Level within the Blackboard CMS
Integration Makes it Easier for Students to Access Wider Variety of Digital Media
Seattle, WA, July 16, 2008 – Cdigix Inc., the leading provider of rich digital media services for colleges and universities, today announced course level access to its C-Labs digital media platform from within Blackboard’s course management system. Through the Blackboard Building Blocks open architecture initiative, Cdigix is now providing students with simplified, seamless access to rich media fully integrated into their Blackboard courses.
C-Labs enables colleges and universities to easily deliver, manage and access rich digital media securely and legally for students and faculty anytime, anywhere. The course level integration with Blackboard provides schools with better accessibility and management of rich on-demand media, specifically as an integrated part of their curricula and existing course management system.
“Our customers using the Blackboard CMS have been anxiously awaiting this latest advancement as it further streamlines digital content delivery for an enhanced teaching and learning experience,” said Anthony Ravani, Senior Vice President of Technology for Cdigix. “The automated process improves student productivity and performance by allowing students to concentrate their efforts on course content rather than navigating various technology platforms.”
Through a single sign-on process, students can easily access assigned media through the C-Labs platform without ever navigating outside of their Blackboard course or entering additional login credentials. Their Blackboard sign-in automatically authenticates them with C-Labs.
Once logged in to a course, students simply click “Tools” on the left hand navigation bar, and then click the “C-Labs” tab. All assigned media titles are displayed for easy access, viewing and management. Students have the flexibility of downloading media files to their computer or transferring them to a portable device, such as an iPod.
The standard C-Labs Building Blocks integration is included with the C-Labs service at no additional charge. Institutions only need to provide or request the media, enter the metadata for each piece of content, and relate it to a class and its associated students using the C-Labs Administration Web-based software program.

The automated process enables students to concentrate their efforts more on course content rather than navigating various technology platforms.
Additionally, the integration tool automates the authentication process so administrators can eliminate duplication of multiple systems. Administrators no longer need to associate students with both systems. 05/02/2007 - Cdigix Integrates C-Labs Digital Educational Platform Into Blackboard’s Course Management System
Integration Allows University Students to Seamlessly Access Digital Content From Within Blackboard Applications
Seattle, WA, May 2, 2007 – Cdigix, Inc., the leading provider of digital educational services to the college marketplace, today announced that it has completed the integration of its C-Labs digital education platform into the Blackboard Building Blocks™ open architecture initiative. The new C-Labs enhancement allows faculty and students at any university currently using the Blackboard Academic Suite™ to access and deliver rich media using the C-Labs service in a seamless fashion. Students will find greater ease of use, as their Blackboard sign-in now automatically authenticates them with C-Labs.
C-Labs is a complete turnkey service that provides universities with all the tools necessary to easily post and maintain course-critical digital audio and video media online — to be accessed by students on multiple platforms to fulfill their course requirements. The Blackboard Building Blocks software development kit is used by thousands of academic institutions and independent software vendors to develop, contribute and share educational web applications which integrate with the Blackboard platform. By integrating with Blackboard Building Blocks, C-Labs customers can easily access C-Labs from within their Blackboard® application, enhancing the academic benefits of both platforms. This integration also eliminates duplication efforts that administrators may encounter when maintaining class rosters and authentication criteria in the two systems.
The Standard C-Labs Building Blocks integration is included with the C-Labs service at no additional charge and is now available to C-Labs customers. Cdigix is currently working with several partner schools to fully implement this new feature for them.
“We are pleased to announce this technology pairing with Blackboard, as it serves as the next step in making digital media more accessible to faculty, administrators and students,” said Mark Brodsky, Vice President, University Sales, Cdigix. “By integrating C-Labs with the Blackboard Building Blocks application, we are offering faculty members a technologically sophisticated yet incredibly user-friendly way for them to assign audio and video content into classroom learning.”
“We applaud Cdigix for the development of this innovative tool,” said Jan Poston Day, Director of Standards and Interoperability at Blackboard. “Third party applications that integrate with the Blackboard platform such as the Standard C-Labs Building Block are a great value to academic institutions that can offer a richer, enhanced experience to students.”
C-Labs is gaining recognition as an essential service to universities around the country by allowing universities to post and maintain an online digital media reserve of content that they already own in their library, while simultaneously distributing that media in a secure manner to their students on both PCs and Macs. Administrators need only provide the media, enter the metadata for each piece of content, and relate it to a class and its associated students using the C-Labs Administration web-based software program. C-Labs automatically controls which users can see which pieces of content, delivering both protected and secure files.
The recently upgraded version, C-Labs 2007, offers a significantly enhanced user experience, new administrative tools, and three important new features:
• C-Labs Community, giving a participating university the ability to post institution-owned media into a shared media pool that is available to other C-Labs partner institutions. All media posted to the C-Labs Community must be owned by the university responsible for the posting of those materials;
• C-Labs Library, allowing administrators to acquire media that is not currently in their campus libraries while alleviating the challenge of procuring individual titles for specific classroom assignments; and
• C-Labs Podcasting, letting students and faculty download campus-produced content that is posted to C-Labs in non-encrypted audio and video formats to their computer or transfer it to a portable device such as an iPod.

C-Labs allows universities to post and maintain an online digital media reserve of content that they already own in their library, while simultaneously distributing that media in a secure manner to their students on both PCs and Macs. Administrators need only provide the media, enter the metadata for each piece of content, and relate it to a class and its associated students using the C-Labs Administration web-based software program. C-Labs automatically controls which users can see which pieces of content, delivering both protected and secure files. C-Labs integrates with common authentication systems, such as LDAP and Shibboleth, and course management systems, such as Blackboard and Sakai.
C-Labs 2007, now available to universities nationwide, includes three significant upgrades:
• C-Labs Library, allowing administrators to acquire media that is not currently in their campus libraries while alleviating the challenge of procuring individual titles for specific classroom assignments;
• C-Labs Podcasting, letting students and faculty download campus-produced content that is posted to C-Labs in non-encrypted audio and video formats to their computer or transfer it to a portable device such as an iPod; and
• C-Labs Community, giving a participating university the ability to post institution-owned media into a shared media pool that is available to other C-Labs partner institutions. All media posted to the C-Labs Community must be owned by the university responsible for the posting of those materials.

10/10/2006 - Cdigix Unveils C-Labs 2007 Digital Media Educational Platform At Educause 2006 Conference
Clabs 2007 Provides College Students with On-Demand Access to Audio/Video Assignments While Giving Administrators Enhanced Tools To Upload, Assign and Share Content on Multiple Platforms
Dallas, TX and Seattle, WA, October 10, 2006)— Cdigix, Inc., the leading provider of digital media services to the college marketplace, today announced the immediate availability of Clabs 2007, the latest version of its digital media educational platform. Clabs is a complete turnkey service that provides universities with all the tools they need to post and maintain course-critical digital audio and video media online – to be accessed by students on multiple platforms to fulfill their course requirements, while complying with copyright policies. Clabs 2007 offers a significantly enhanced user experience, in addition to three important new features: the Clabs Library, Clabs Podcasting, and the Clabs Community.
“Gone are the days when college students need to attend scheduled screenings or visit the media lab to access audiovisual media as part of their learning experience,” stated Larry Jacobson, chairman and CEO of Cdigix. “Clabs enables students to easily and conveniently access their course-critical multimedia assignments on demand, while assuring college professors of secure and immediate availability of their curriculum. In response to input from thought leaders using Clabs, we’ve now instituted new features to expand the reach, relevance and impact that digital media delivery affords.”
Clabs Overview
Clabs is now emerging as an important part of the digital media landscape at universities around the country, including the University of Michigan; California State University, Fullerton; and others. New institutions that will launch Clabs 2007 this fall include the University of Maryland, College Park; La Salle University; and Mount Holyoke College.
Through the Clabs product offering, universities can post and maintain an online digital media reserve of content that they already own in their library, while simultaneously distributing that media in a secure manner to their students on both PCs and Macs. Administrators need only provide the media, enter the metadata for each piece of content, and associate it with a class and its associated students using the Clabs Administration Web-based software program. Clabs automatically controls which users can see which pieces of content, delivering both protected and secure files.
“We are looking to Clabs to help to change the way that our professors are designing their courses and delivering assignments to their students,” stated Elizabeth Housewright, Associate University Librarian at California State University, Fullerton. “The Clabs platform can significantly enhance the learning experience by increasing the amount of educational multimedia that can be incorporated into a class syllabus without the concern that students won’t be able to access the required material due to time or distribution constraints.”
Clabs 2007 New Features Clabs Library
The Clabs Library was created as a response to administrators’ requests to acquire media that is not currently in their campus libraries while alleviating the challenge of procuring individual titles for specific classroom assignments. The Clabs Library features more than 125,000 video titles, representing the vast majority of generally available in-print DVDs and VHS programs, as well as a search interface that allows university administrators to purchase media for procurement and processing into their Clabs service.
Clabs Podcasting
Clabs Podcasting allows for campus-produced content to be posted into Clabs in a non-encrypted format such as MP3 for audio files and MPEG 4 for video files. Students and faculty are then able to download the file to their computer or transfer it to a portable device such as an iPod and a wide array of MP3 players to allow for mobile viewing or listening.
Clabs Community
The Clabs Community enables a participating university to post institution-owned media into a shared media pool that is available to other Clabs partner institutions. By utilizing the Clabs Community feature, a university is able to enhance its campus-based repository of rich media with additional multimedia content from other schools that supports its curriculum. All media posted to the Clabs Community must be owned by the university responsible for the posting of those materials.
